AstraZeneca vaccine: Reports of blood clots double in weeks –but ‘benefits outweigh risks’

The Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA’s) weekly summary of Yellow Card reporting revealed reports of blood clot cases increased from 79 to 168 and deaths from 19 to 32.

Meanwhile, the chances of getting a blood clot from having the vaccine increased from one in 250,000 to one in 126,582, according to the reporting.

But an MHRA spokesman said: “On the basis of this ongoing review, the advice remains that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks in the majority of people.”
