Ballot measure 4A, a Denver Public Schools mill levy override, has 74% support as of 7 p.m. when votes were counted. Likewise, the district’s bond proposal — ballot measure 4B — has 79.7% support, according to early polling tallies.
Denver Public Schools asked voters to approve a $32 million mill levy override as well as a $795 million bond override to invest in both personnel and infrastructure projects across the district. Specifically, the mill levy would increase wages for hourly workers, offer cost-of-living raises for teachers, and fund new mental health professionals and nurses in schools.
The bond would cover the cost of adding air conditioning to buildings and classrooms, upgrading science and computer labs, and increasing and upgrading technology for students. About $130 million would be invested in rebuilding or renovating a facility for the forthcoming comprehensive high school on the Montbello campus, which is slated to open in the 2022-23 school year.
