Sunak denies snubbing DeSantis on visit to London over fears of Trump

Rishi Sunak has denied snubbing Ron DeSantis as he landed in London in a bid to boost his Presidential credentials. There had been suggestions that the Prime Minister had avoided meeting the Florida governor because of fears that it would spark a row with Donald Trump as the two men fight it out for the Republican nomination for the White House.

Mr DeSantis has found himself falling far behind the former President in the early polling with Republicans for the nomination ahead of his expected announcement next month that he will fun for the Presidency.

And with Mr Trump expected to land in the UK next week, Mr Sunak is understood to be keen to avoid looking as though he favours one candidate over the other.

However, with DeSantis meeting Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and trade secretary Kemi Badenoch today, Downing Street has denied there has been any snub.

A source said that the Prime Minister did not have a meeting “because he’s in Scotland and Wales today for conferences.”
