Scottish-registered scallop dredger Cornelis Gert Jan was impounded seven days ago and moored up in Le Havre. Mathieu Croix, lawyer for Jondy Ward, the boat’s skipper, said: “The court followed our arguments and cancelled the seizure.”

Mr Croix, who was speaking to the Telegraph, added: “The boat is free to leave Le Havre immediately without having to pay any bail.”
