July 14 marks Bastille Day in France, the country’s national day which locals celebrate in the same way the US might commemorate the fourth of July. Although the day focusses on one central theme, it incorporates two historical events.
What is Bastille Day?
Bastille Day incorporates two French historical events in one day.
The first is the titular storming of the Bastille, which marked a turning point in the French Revolution.
The second is the Fête de la Fédération, an 18th-century French holiday festival.
