BBC Weather: ‘Freezing rain’ and ice to spark chaos across Europe in ‘transformation’

BBC Weather: Europe forecast milder temperatures and rain

Nick Miller forecast mild temperatures and showers for much of Europe with snow and freezing rain lingering in some areas. The BBC meteorologist added that there will be a big weather transformation from snow to rain across the continent in the coming days.

Mr Miller said: “Much milder air is now moving across western parts of Europe and weather systems are moving further east into the cold air.

“This is producing some snow and some freezing rain.

“There are some very icy conditions in some spots.

“For some of us in the next few days there is a big weather transformation on the way as we move from snow to rain.”

He continued: “We have had some significant snow falling into Greece and Turkey as weather systems slowly move away.

“It is largely dry across Iberia with patchy rain moving into the northwest of France.

“It is a weather system moving eastwards that is affecting Scandinavia and parts of Germany.

“It will bring with it that risk of freezing rain and very icy conditions.”

BBC Weather: ‘Freezing rain’ to batter parts of UK

On Sunday, BBC meteorologist Sarah Keith-Lucas forecast warmer temperatures overnight than the UK has seen in previous days.

She added that London’s temperature will reach double figures.

Ms Keith-Lucas said: “Tomorrow and into next week we will continue to see milder air moving in from a south-westerly direction.

“Temperatures in the warmest spots, in London for instance, will be up to 13C, but fairly widely we are back into double-figures.”

Ms Keith-Lucas added: “That is the pattern for the rest of the week ahead.

There is a much much milder weather system but certainly unsettled with outbreaks of rain and a slight dip in temperatures on Thursday.”

There is a Met Office warning for wind for coastal areas in western Scotland and Northern Ireland’s east coast that will be in place between 12pm-4am on Monday.
