China’s tabloid the Global Times warned Taiwan’s president Tsai ing-wen would be “wiped out” if she dared to violate the Anti-Secession law of China. The news platform, which is a subsidiary of the official Chinese Communist Party outlet, The People’s Daily, claimed China would go to war if Taiwan broke the unilateral Anti-Secession law that states Taiwan is part of mainland China. The belligerent rant by editor in chief of the Global Times, Hu Xijin, added that Taiwan’s president Tsai was “playing with fire” by inviting US officials to the country.
Chinese state-run tabloid the Global Times said: “Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen, who pledged deeper ties with the US at a dinner for a visiting senior State Department officials is clearly playing with fire.
“If any act of her provocation violates the Anti-Secession Law of China, a war will be set off and Tsai will be wiped out.”
China has taunted Taiwan over its response to Chinese bombers crossing into Taiwan’s maritime territory on Saturday.
This week 19 Chinese fighter jets and bombers flew over the “middle line” boundary of the Taiwanese Strait.
This drew condemnation from the US and Taiwan, with US secretary of state Mike Pompeo saying the action had “infringed on the peaceful status quo in the Taiwan Straits”.
But The Global Times said was that it was a “practical rehearsal for an island takeover”.
China being so explicit about their desire to take over the island nation has caused anxiety in both Washington and Taipei.
Yesterday in his editorial in the Global Times editor in chief stated: “I believe it is the PLA’s practical rehearsal for an island takeover.

“It clearly declared that the Chinese mainland no longer tolerates the underhanded collusion between the US government and the island’s secessionist forces.
“Such collusion has become the mainland’s prior and principal target to strike.
“It must be stopped otherwise the PLA will continue to upgrade its military operations, until an ultimate showdown.”
The editor in chief of the Global Times added: “The PLA’s jets have been just ‘an inch’ away from the island of Taiwan.

“If the US and the island continue their collusion to secede the island from China, we believe that the PLA is resolute enough to launch cruise missiles over through the island, send fighter jets above the island to declare sovereignty, and carry out military drills there.
“As a result, a new military construct will be formed in the Taiwan Straits.”
The tabloid added: “The PLA is confident of defeating the US intervention into the Taiwan Straits, dealing a heavy blow the ambitions of US hegemony.”
Express.co.uk spoke to Profesor Steve Tsang of SOAS University who explained the Global Times was not the official mouthpiece of the central government but what is announced in the firebrand editorials is approved by the Chinese Communist Party.
Professor Tsang said: “The editorial in the Global Times is a re-affirmation of China’s longer-term intention to take over Taiwan.”
But, he added: “If China had the military means to take Taiwan as the Global Times state they do, they would have already taken the nation.”
