Crazed pitbull-style dog mauled boy, 10, to death days after lunging at tot

A "crazed" American pitbull-style dog that mauled a young boy to death lunged a toddler just days beforehand, it's claimed.

It's reported that the dog also bit a customer at a nearby shop before attacking the 10-year-old at a friend's house.

Police rushed to the scene of Penyhreol, near Caerphilly in South Wales last night, after screams were heard coming from a house where children were playing after school.

The boy was mauled to death at the scene by the savage dog which was later shot dead by a police marksman on Monday, writes The Mirror.

As the shocked neighbourhood mourns the loss in the tragedy, it's been claimed the dog is believed to be an American pitbull-type – and had allegedly bitten a man who was shopping at the weekend.

Shop worker Tarjit Sandhu said the animal had been brought to the village recently and the family volunteered to look after it for a few hours for the owner.

The 67-year-old said: The little boy who died was at the house with his little friend when the dog attacked.

"It is a fighting dog, an American pitbull, it hasn't been in the village very long.

"A few days ago, it was tied up outside the shop where I work when a man customer bent down to stroke it.

"The dog bit him on the arm, it was quite a nasty bite."

Mr Sandhu said the attack had left the community in a state of shock and disbelief.

"It's a dreadful thing to happen," he said.

Another resident said it was a "massive" dog and it had "lunged" at their three-year-old toddler a mere few days ago.

They added: “I took our son down to the local shop a few days ago, and he was down there then and he was lunging at my son.

“My son is three years old and I had to pick up my son just to move around the dog because of the size of him. He was absolutely huge.

“He wasn’t a pet – he was taking the owner for a walk, you know. He was massive.”

More than a dozen police cars and ambulances swarmed the street outside the family home at 4pm.

A Gwent Police spokesman said: "We were called to an address in Pentwyn, Penyrhoel, Caerphilly at around 3.55pm on Monday, following reports of a dog attack.

"Officers attended, including specially-trained firearms officers, alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who confirmed that a 10-year-old boy had died at the scene."

"The dog was destroyed by firearms officers and no other animals were involved in the attack."

Officers are speaking with the dog's owner who according to locals, had only had the dog for a few days.
