A cyclist has been critically injured in a crash with a vehicle in Northland.
Emergency services are responding to the scene, on Marsden Point Rd in Ruakākā, after authorities were alerted of the incident just before 7am.
Police confirmed one person – the cyclist – suffered critical injuries in the crash and is being airlifted to Auckland City Hospital for treatment.
St John said it was called to the area at 6.45am after reports of a motor vehicle incident.
Three ambulances and the Northland Emergency Services Trust helicopter responded.
Motorists in the area are encouraged to delay their travel times or expect delays as a section of the road has been closed as a result.
“Diversions are being put in place and are likely to be at Mccathie Rd and McEwan Rd,” a spokesman said.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is also at the scene.
