A pair of dead puppies have been heartbreakingly thrown out onto the street as rubbish.
The tiny dogs were found wrapped up and poorly hidden in an aftershave gift box, discarded at a popular fly-tipping spot just outside of Grimsby, Lincolnshire.
An Ashby cum Fenby resident who spotted the saddening rubbish pile described the puppies' treatment as "disgusting" but was not surprised, GrimsbyLive reports.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue responded to the discovery by issuing a plea for struggling pet owners to turn to them when desperate for help.
The man who shared a photo of the dead puppies on Facebook, said: "I felt sorry for the pups but wasn’t surprised by how callous the few are.
"Aside from the disgusting treatment of the pups, fly-tipping is a problem I regularly deal with.”
"I hope these people will realise how unnecessary and irresponsible it is to dump anything at all.
"Neatly wrapped two dead puppies dumped roadside in the popular fly-tipping area of Ashby Cum Fenby."
The team at Jerry Green Dog Rescue have been urging people to hand over their pets if they cannot look after them.
They say there is no shame in giving up a dog as doing so could provide them with a better life.
A Jerry Green spokesperson said: "Please, please, do not hesitate to ask for help if you need it. We will be here.
"We will not judge you. We will help. If you need our help, please ask for it. It is why we are here."
Speaking generally about fly-tipping, Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: "Fly-tipping is a crime and the council investigates all incidents.
"Anyone who is caught risks a £400 fixed penalty notice.

"Where we find enough evidence, we will take offenders to court where the penalties can be much harsher.
"Our street cleansing team quickly cleared up these door seals and other washing machine parts from South Sea Lane.
"Dumping rubbish in this way makes the area look a mess and harms wildlife.
"If anyone saw the rubbish being dumped or has more information about where it came from, please get in touch at www.nelincs.gov.uk/fly-tipping."
Councillor Shepherd added: "Fly-tipping is a national problem. We all have a legal obligation, or duty of care, to make sure our waste is disposed of correctly.
"Most people dispose of their waste responsibly, but a small minority don’t.
"The best way to stop organised fly-tipping is to make sure that only authorised waste carriers take your waste away. The simplest way to check is to ask for their carrier licence number and visit the Environment Agency’s waste carrier register."
