Disgusting Primark pervert caught filming up young womans skirt by shopper

A young woman’s shopping trip to her local Primark came to a shocking end when she realised a vile pervert was taking photos up her skirt.

Hull Crown Court heard that the 20-year-old was left traumatised by the experience, saying the "degrading and embarrassing” incident "left long-lasting effects" on her.

Kevin Syder, 55, of South Bridge Road, Hull, admitted recording images under the woman's clothes on March 8 2020, reports Hull Live.

Richard Butters, prosecuting, said that Syder was detained by security staff at Primark in Princes Quay, Hull, after being alerted by a member of the public.

The witness spotted him using a phone to take photographs up the skirt of a woman standing in front of him in the queue.

The shopper told the woman: "Excuse me, I have just seen this man taking a photograph up your skirt."

The victim was with her younger sister at the time.

Six videos showing the woman's bottom and underwear were later found on Syder's phone.

"He attempted to run out of the store but he was fortunately detained very quickly by security staff," said Mr Butters.

"He was arrested and his phone was seized. It has had a very long lasting, profound impact on his victim."

Syder had no previous convictions and had worked as a plasterer before becoming a long-distance lorry driver for 30 years before losing that job because of this offence.

He had served in the Territorial Army for more than 16 years, the court heard. He had been married but has no children.

Judge Michael Fanning told Syder: "It's upskirting. It's a crude, ugly word and it describes crude, ugly, perverse, disgusting conduct.

"I am well aware that the impact on victims is very, very real."

He told him the woman was entitled to wear her own choice of clothes and to expect that "some pervert is not going to stick a camera under her skirt" for his own sexual gratification.

"She should not have to feel degraded, humiliated and violated," said Judge Fanning.

"This was very much targeted offending," the judge added.

"You saw an opportunity. You saw and seized that opportunity.

"You recorded that victim under her clothing and that was for your sexual gratification. The real risk was that you shared it.

"Fortunately, you were caught on the day, the video was seized and that brings it to an end."

Syder was given an 18-week suspended prison sentence, with rehabilitation work, and he was ordered to pay £500 compensation to the woman.

He must register as a sex offender for seven years and the phone will be forfeited and destroyed.
