Gidea Park has been badly hit by what a Twitter user described as “intense downpours”.

In one video, posted on Twitter, a car drives down a street which has been submerged in water.

A man in the car remarks: “Oh my God – look how bad that is.”

One Twitter user commented: “Absolutely insane downpour major flooding from Collier Row, Harrold Hill and Gidea Park.”

Another claimed the “insane near stationary downpour” began within the “last hour or so”.

There are also reports of a “tornado” in Barking, with video showing trees have been blown over the bricks scattered across the road.

Barking and Dagenham Council tweeted: “We’re aware of the severe weather damage in the Barking area and our Immediate Response team along with the police and fire brigade are on hand sorting any issues.

“As soon as we hear of any further information, we will let you know.”
