George Floyds niece, 4, shot as she slept in bed in horror targeted attack

George Floyd's four-year-old niece has been shot while sleeping in a suspected targeted attack.

The young girl remains in hospital after a bullet penetrated her torso as she slept in her bed at home in Houston, Texas.

Police are hunting the unidentified suspect or suspects who started shooting into the family's house in the early hours of Saturday morning, ABC13 reports.

HPD's Major Assaults and Family Violence Division said bullets were sprayed into an apartment of four adults and two children were inside.

Little Arianna is recovering in a stable condition in hospital where she was rushed to by a private vehicle for life-saving surgery.

The great-niece of murdered George Floyd suffered a punctured lung, liver and three broken ribs from the gun fire.

No arrests had been made by Tuesday evening with police holding back from releasing any information about those responsible or their motivation.

However the girl's family told Houston's ABC13 that they know who opened fire in a shooting they dismissed as merely a coincidence.

Arianna is the daughter of George Floyd's niece, Bianca, whose mum is George's sister, LaTonya and even as a toddler has been in the thick of marches and rallies.

In June a Minnesota judge sentenced Derek Chauvin to 22 and a half years in prison for Floyd's murder.

Massive protests against racial injustice occurred when Chauvin, who is white, was seen by millions pressing his knee onto the neck of Mr Floyd, who was black, for nine minutes and 29 seconds.

Mr Floyd was stopped by police in Minneapolis in Minnesota, US, on suspicion of using a fake $20 bill to pay for cigarettes at a convenience store.

Bystanders watched on as officers pinned Mr Floyd to the ground, with veteran cop Derek Chauvin kneeling across his neck on May 25 2020.
