Greenwood Village plastic surgeon arrested in connection to death of 18-year-old patient.

A Greenwood Village plastic surgeon has been arrested in connection to the death of an 18-year-old patient.

Dr. Geoffrey Kim, 52, turned himself into authorities on Wednesday accompanied by an attorney, according to an Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Kim is being investigated for the death of Emmalyn Nguyen. An arrest warrant had been issued for Kim on suspicion of two felonies, first-degree aggravated assault and criminally negligent homicide, according to the release.

On Aug. 1, 2019, Nguyen, of Brighton, underwent breast augmentation surgery at Colorado Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, the release said. She went into cardiac arrest after being administered anesthesia, fell into a coma and died 14 months later. A criminal investigation was undertaken.

“We opened this criminal case in August 2019. The investigation has taken more than two years to complete and involved dozens of interviews and search warrants. Our hope is that this will be the beginning of bringing justice and a sense of closure to Emmalyn’s family,“ said Travis Stewart, captain of investigations with the sheriff’s office, in the release.

Rex Meeker, a nurse anesthetist, is wanted on an arrest warrant for manslaughter, according to the sheriff’s office.

Formal charges have not yet been filed in the case. Kim was booked and released on Wednesday after posting bond.

In June, Kim and Meeker each agreed to pay $1 million to the family of Nguyen, an attorney for the family told CBS4.
