I climbed The O2s roof for stand up gig as Lou Sanders left me in stitches

'Do not bounce!' were our guide's firm instructions before scaling one of London's most iconic landmarks.

As the group of us fitted into our harnesses and pulled over a snazzy Up atTthe O2 gilet, instructions to not treat the steep path way like a trampoline sounded a bit baffling.

Yet all made sense within a few yards of the ascent when low and behold all my legs started twitching and the impulsive devil on my shoulder had to be ignored.

The burning of quadricep muscles in my thighs and careful hand-eye coordination with my clip, swiftly stole my attention from the need to defy all safety warnings.

For a few years now, the capital's biggest arena in which I've seen the likes of Drake, Travis Scott and 50 Cent make their own – has been open to sight-seers and thrill-seekers alike to trample all over.

It was more than city lit views that awaited us at the top on this particular evening as ready to have us all cracking up in our safety gear was a stand-up comedian in the most open but intimate sets imaginable.

Starring in this year's end-of-summer series of 'Comedy Nights' was the hilarious Taskmaster favourite, Lou Sanders, who effectively flipped a small sea of angst into laughter.

Be warned, unlike an inside a stand-up gig beneath the roof, there is nowhere to hide from a comedian's interaction as a poor pair of friends found out to the amusement of everyone else.

The couple who awkwardly insisted they were nothing but good friends, were wrapped up in Lou's racy material about relationships and chat up lines.

No matter how many times they were pushed, neither suddenly hopped down on one knee.

By contrast, clad in a daftly inappropriate suit spiced up with a not so stylish pair of walking shoes and the aforementioned jacket, I got off pretty lightly.

In fact, as I sipped away on a glass of bubbly among the thinly spread crowd, Lou hurled a couple of compliments my way, which is a far cry from the typical response to my occupation.

The comedian's brief residency on the roof of The O2 may now be up but the panoramic views remain very much open for booking for various times in the day.

Once you're back on solid ground, you could do worse than head inside the same building which boasts a great deal more than its 20,000 capacity arena.

Axe throwing at Boom Battle Bar did not come as naturally to me as I hoped but funnily enough less skill is required to enjoy karaoke at the same venue. Better still, leave the music to top DJs performing until late every Saturday.
