Japan's defense minister says he has halted deployment of Aegis Ashore system

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono said on Monday that he had halted plans to deploy the Aegis Ashore air defense radar that can track and target ballistic missiles in space in two parts of Japan.

Kono told reporters that due to technical issues as well as cost, plans to deploy the radar in northern and southern Japan were being halted.
