Jetski romeo sells love boat that got him across Irish Sea – and makes a profit

The lovesick lad who crossed the Irish Sea on a jetski to see his girlfriend has sold it for a profit.

Roofer Dale McLaughlan flogged it for £6,125 this week – more than £1,000 over what he paid.

He served 10 days of a four-week jail term following his Covid rule-busting crossing from Scotland to the Isle of Man to visit Jessica Radcliffe.

Dale, 28 – who called himself a “crappy James Bond” after his adventure – sold the Seadoo Spark on eBay. He had bought it for £5,000.

Dale, from Irvine, Ayrshire, wrote on the listing: “For sale is a 2015 Seadoo Spark which famously crossed the Irish Sea on December the 11th over 4.5 hours. Trusted this ski with my life – served me well old friend.”

Dale hatched the plan for his voyage, which included a 12-mile walk to Jessica’s home in Douglas, after being denied a Manx work permit.

He believed the journey would be just 40 minutes, but it took more than four hours and he only had 10 minutes’ fuel left as he reached the island.

After his release from prison last month he vowed he would “do it all over again” for his girl.

The brazen roofer, who referred to himself as more a “crappy James Bond” than Milk Tray man after he was released from prison has since said he would “do it all over again” to prove his love for his beau.

Speaking on national television, he said: “I would do anything for Jessica, I think I’ve proved that to the whole world to be honest. I would do it all over again.

“(But maybe I’d use) a rubber dinghy next time.”

Jessica – who met Dale when he was over working in September — revealed she didn’t know about the death-defying trip last month until he was arrested.

But the loved up brunette said she would consider marrying Dale, “if he asked”, upon his release from jail after she was blown away by the romantic gesture.

She said: “I thought he was coming over on a boat – I didn’t know about any of this.

“I felt in disbelief. I couldn’t believe it.

“I just thought ‘what is so special about me that you’d put your life in danger for me?’”
