Killer who tried to flee with corpse caught dangling by underwear

A man accused of murder was left dangling by his underwear from the 12th storey of an apartment block after he tried to jump from the window.

Police from the US city of Boston in Massachusetts told of how Michael Perry, 37, snagged his underwear on the handle of the window after trying to escape the force's officers with a corpse in the neighbourhood of Roxbury.

He was fleeing an apartment that belonged to 43-year-old Jose Aponte, whose dead body had been found there last Sunday (December 11) when police had responded to a concerned call from the resident's boss.

As reported by NBC in Boston, the boss had received a text, sent from Aponte's phone, that did not match his employee's normal style of writing.

"When police got there, they found the resident of the apartment deceased in the apartment with significant signs of physical trauma," prosecutors said. "Mr. Perry was farther back in the apartment.

"He had moved things to obscure himself. They called out to him, asked him if he had any weapons, and his response was 'Come and find out.'"

After a SWAT team arrived, Perry then made for the window but, after his underwear got caught, police grabbed hold of his legs whilst other officers made their way to the 11th floor and dragged him through a window below.

Perry was subsequently charged with the murder of Aponte and for assault with a dangerous weapon in relation to his altercation with police.

It has also emerged that the defendant has found himself in a similar situation before after being arrested by another SWAT team in 2017.

On that occasion, he had attacked a man in a Boston hotel and tried to flee from police through a window onto a ledge underneath.

There has not yet been any official confirmation given as to the cause of Aponte's death.

Nor has the nature of Perry's relationship to the deceased been revealed.
