Kinky sex parties where PVC-clad women are flogged got £36,235 taxpayer handout

An underground kink community was given a £36,235 taxpayer handout which saved it from going under as pressures from Covid mounted.

Klub Verboten, a progressive fetish night where members are encouraged to attend wearing "latex, rubber, PVC, leather, chains, studs and naked skin", received the funding from Arts Council England.

According to The Sun the leftfield community received the funding in April through its parent arm Unbennant.

The parties are a strict affair where members are verified before they are allowed to attend and not everyone is accepted into the club.

As well as its community functions Klub Verboten also runs an online shop where visitors can purchase suction dildos, nipple clamps and leather harnesses.

The online shop describes itself as a "genderless and body-positive shop championing queerness, fetishism and sexuality by the perverts behind Klub Verboten."

Arts Council England confirmed that the funding was from the Covid Culture Recovery Fund designed to support struggling businesses in the arts industry.

In a statement to The Sun Arts Council England said Unbennant is “a creative production company that makes a valuable contribution to the night-time economy and will use its grant to create and protect a number of jobs through Covid-secure events.”

It added: “We recognise some things won’t be for everyone, but want to support different types of organisations that cater to all tastes and interests.”

The Klub Verboten were elated with news of its funding and wrote: “This rescued us from going bust. So big hugs to you all!”

On its website one member wrote: "Utterly epic new – Proud of the Arts Council for this and proud of you all."

In 2019, after visiting one of the parties, a reporter for Vice wrote: "Klub Verboten is one of a new wave of fetish parties to have cropped up in London in recent years in response to a generational shift in the scene.

"With a stripped-back aesthetic and a comparatively young crowd, mostly in their twenties and thirties, it offers a different experience to most kink and fetish events.

"It's less champagne flutes, fairy lights and "sexual elite", more spikes, concrete and misfits who moved to London to go to art school."
