Madeleine McCann's parents have sent a four-word message to the missing girl on what is her 20th birthday today (Friday, May 12).

The toddler from Rothley, Leicestershire, was just three-years-old when she vanished while on holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.

Parents Kate McCann and Gerry McCann have continued to hope she will be found alive and well.

Madeleine's family will mark her birthday at a small private gathering today.

Taking to the official Find Madeleine Campaign Facebook page, Kate and Gerry told their daughter: "We're waiting for you."

Their message read in full: "Happy birthday Madeleine! We love you and we’re waiting for you. We’re never going to give up."

The parents also shared photos of their daughter taken on the fateful trip to the Algarve 16 years ago.

The caption under the video of the snaps read: "Madeleine McCann is 20-years-old today.

"She’s still missing, still missed and we are never going to give up trying to find her."

It comes after Madeleine's younger sister Amelie spoke out for the first time on the 16th anniversary of the disappearance earlier this month.

Amelie, now 18 and applying to go to university, was also pictured for the first time since she was a toddler.

She said: “It’s nice that everyone is here together but it’s a sad occasion.”

Amelie lit a candle in Madeleine's memory as she joined her parents for an informal prayer gathering in their home village of Rothley.

Her twin brother Sean did not attend.
