Meghan Markle fans go wild at surprise news of Duchess-led Netflix kids series

Fans of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were treated to an unexpected piece of good news on Wednesday night when Netflix announced that an animated TV show executive produced by the Duchess was in the works.

Pearl – the working title of the project – will follow he adventures of a 12-year-old girl who is inspired by influential women from history.

Meghan has co-created the series with Elton John's husband David Furnish and a number of other well known names in the industry.

Meghan said: "Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.

"I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history."

Many fans of the Duchess took to Twitter to share their joy at the unexpected news.

And lots of them were thrilled by the subject matter and how it played on themes clearly very close to Meghan's heart.

"This sounds lovely! The description is everything Meghan has always talked about and supported. I can't wait to watch it", one posted.

Another tweeted: "We're just too proud of Meghan! She's lit & creative….."

While yet another Sussex fan added: "My girl Meghan on to big things!!!"

And several took great pleasure in pointing out just how hands on Meghan had become since leaving the UK.

They said: "Wow!!! Megan does not play around at all. You girl, you go!!"

Pearl becomes the latest in a number of multimedia projects led by Meghan and Harry since Megxit – the couple's stepping down as senior royals – became official last year.

The Duchess of Sussex has already released children's book The Bench, inspired by a poem she wrote for Prince Harry on his first Father's Day after their eldest son Archie was born.

The book was filled with a number of cute easter eggs for fans of the couple.
