New Year’s Eve ‘cancelled’ for millions at last minute as Brits slam Tier 4

New Year's Eve is cancelled for millions of Brits in England after a further 23 areas were forced into strict Tier 4 restrictions.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock said much of the North West, North East, South West, and Midlands would join London and parts of the South East in Tier 4.

Under the strictest Tier, all non-essential shops, including gyms, entertainment venues and hospitality, including hotels will be closed.

The measures put a stopper in millions of Brits plans who thought they would have the chance to spend New Year with friends and family.

Taking to social media, one disgruntled Brit asked how the Government manages to make these announcements right before the holiday.

Reflecting on Boris Johnson’s decision to stop London, the South East, and East from continuing with Christmas as planned, the user said: "How do they manage to make these announcements right before Eid and Christmas and New Year's Eve????

"How have they done it badly THREE times?"

He added: "When shall we cancel Christmas after telling them on Wednesday that it won't be cancelled?"

"Saturday before mate."

"When shall we stick most of them into tier 4?

"Literally on NYE."

A second said: "What a f***ing move, one of the biggest nights of the year and they shut hospitality the day before NYE."

While a third said: "You are having a laugh! Remember when Boris said we'd be fine before the end of the year? What a joke."

"Great, can't wait to spend yet another day inside, alone because this virus is out of control," a fourth said.

"New Year's Eve is cancelled then, great to know we'll be celebrating absolutely nothing this year," a fifth added.
