Pilot of single-engine biplane dies in Western Slope crash.

A pilot died Friday morning in a single-engine plane crash on the Western Slope.

At about 8 a.m. the Delta County Communication Center received a call about a possible plane crash, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The caller said he last saw the plane about 10 miles northeast of Delta.

The sheriff’s office and the Cedaredge Fire Department responded to the remote, rugged area and found the wreckage of a red biplane. The heavily damaged plane was resting on its side on a steep embankment. The pilot, who was not identified Friday, died at the crash scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
