Putins marriage proposal was so odd his ex-wife thought she was being dumped

Outing the crazed Russian despot as more of a fighter than a lover, Vladimir Putin's ex-wife revealed his proposal to her was so weird, she thought he was breaking up and the fact he was trying to wed her came as a "complete surprise".

Mad Vlad's ex-wife Lyudmila Shkrebneva, 64, revealed the details of Putin's clunky proposal in the 2000 biography, First Person: An Astonishingly Frank Self-Portrait by Russia's President, which features a collection of interviews with people in his inner-circle.

Shkrebneva told the interviewer that she and Putin, now 69, were sitting around in a house when he said: "‘You know what kind of person I am by now.

"In general, I'm not very easygoing."

Shkrebneva goes on to say that Putin was being self-critical, outlining some of his flaws, including that he was the silent type and that he could be rather abrupt with some things and would insult people.

The president's ex-wife said: "He was saying that he was a risky life partner. And he added, ‘In three and a half years, you have probably made up your mind’.

"It sounded to me like we were breaking up. 'Yes, I've made up my mind,' I said.

"He let out a doubtful, 'Yes?'

The former first lady of Russia then told the interviewer it was then that she was sure that they were breaking up, adding: "But then he said, 'Well then if that is the way it is, I love you and propose we get married.'

“So it all came as a complete surprise to me."

During the interview she also revealed that she was initially less than smitten by the "poorly dressed" president, who she was matched up with on a double date.

Despite her initial reservations, the pair stayed in touch, fell in love, and were dating for three-and-a-half years before Putin's awkward betrothal.

The couple married in 1983 and went on to have two daughters together, divorcing in 2014 after 30 years of marriage. Shkrebneva went on to marry businessman Artur Ocheretny in 2015, who at 43, is 21 years her junior.

While Putin never officially remarried, the lunatic leader, who is notoriously tight lipped about his private life, is believed to be in a long term relationship with Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Alina Kabaeva, 38, reports the New York Post.

It is believed the pair have four children together who, along with Kabaeva, are hiding out in Switzerland while Putin continues to wage war on Ukraine.
