Queen to have final say on Harry using royal title at Prince Philip’s funeral

The Queen is yet to make a decision as to whether Prince Harry can be referred to as 'His Royal Highness' during the funeral service for his grandfather, Prince Philip.

When Harry and Meghan stepped down from their senior roles in the Royal Family, they gave up using their "HRH" titles.

It is believed he could be referred to as simply as the "Duke of Sussex" for the service but it is up to the Queen to make the final decision.

According to reports, Harry – who was stripped of his military titles – will not be expected to wear his military uniform during the funeral.

On the other hand, Prince William could wear his military uniform at the service for his grandfather.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said anything which would "distinguish" the brothers is likely to be avoided.

He said: "This is obviously very sensitive. Anything that distinguished the brothers in that way, which would be so obvious for anyone watching, would probably be avoided.

"The whole thing we do not want is any form of rift. I'd suggest it would be handled in such a way as it goes totally smoothly without a hitch, and there are no issues.

"My opinion is that they would do anything possible to make sure that the spotlight on this very, very important day is where it should be, and that's on truly remarkable achievements of someone with superhuman energy who did so much for Queen and country."

Earlier this year, it was announced Harry would be stripped of his honorary military titles.

He no longer holds the positions of Captain-General of the Royal Marines, Honorary Air Commandant of RAF Honington and Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving.

As a result, he is no longer allowed to wear the corresponding uniforms at official events.

However, he could still wear his medals.

The Duke of Edinburgh passed away peacefully at Windsor Castle on Friday (April 9) and his funeral is set to place on Saturday, April 17.

Prince Harry flew back to the UK from the US after the news broke, but his wife Meghan has been advised not to fly by doctors.
