Sasha Banks makes WWE return with SmackDown attack on champ Bianca Belair

WWE star Sasha Banks is the latest big name to make an on-screen comeback following the return of fans to live events.

After being forced to stage almost all of their weekly television and pay per view shows for the last 18 months or so behind closed doors.

That came to a stunning end with the SmackDown episode prior to the Money in the Bank event earlier this month, with the Texas showpiece also witnessed by a sell-out crowd.

That night saw the return of John Cena to WWE as he set up a feud with Roman Reigns, while former WCW legend Goldberg and the first Universal Champion Finn Balor have also made grand comebacks.

Even WWE supremo Vince McMahon made a rare cameo to welcome back fans.

Next to wow crowds with a first appearance for a while was Banks, the multi-time world champion, who returned on the blue brand on Friday night, July 30.

Banks hasn’t wrestled in WWE since WrestleMania back in April and made the save for Women’s Champion Bianca Belair after the champ found herself on the end of a double-team attack by Carmella and Zelina Vega.

That set up a tag team bout between the two pairings later that night, which Banks duly won for her team with the Bank Statement.

As ever, though, there was a big twist – after the match, Banks turned on Belair and left her laying at the end of the show, all but confirming it’s the classic, swaggering heel version of Banks that’s back in business.

Belair beat Banks at Mania in Tampa Bay for the gold, so this latest turn of events strongly hints at a Summerslam re-match between the two next month.

Elsewhere on SmackDown this week, Cena laid out Baron Corbin and managed to get his name on a contract for a Universal title bout with Roman Reigns for the summer spectacular.

It comes as Cena called on The Rock to join the list of megastars making WWE comebacks, with Dwayne Johnson touted for a return at Survivor Series this year.
