The Met Office has warned "sleet, hail and snow showers" with 10 centimetres of the white stuff set to fall tomorrow.
Three yellow-level weather warnings are in place today for snow and ice, with another scheduled for tomorrow's dumping.
They cover Northern Ireland, almost all of Scotland, England's North West as well as parts of the North East, and span from 10am to 4pm and 8pm to 11am on Friday.
The Met Office has said: "Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services.
"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
"Some brief power outages are possible with a risk of isolated lightning strikes.
"Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces"
According to WX Charts' weather modelling, snow will start to fall in the impacted regions today before it comes down in bucket loads tomorrow.
For Scotland, they forecast that 20 to 40 centimetres will fall in mountainous regions along the west coast, with 10 centimetres possible in more populated regions.
In Northern Ireland, Belfast should see three centimetres on the ground come Friday, with that number likely to be nearer seven in more rural areas in the west.
The North West, including Manchester, is set for two centimetres, as is Cardiff in South Wales despite that region not being covered by the Met Office warnings.
The North East, north of Newcastle and heading towards the Scottish border, can also expect a centimetre or two.
Temperatures will remain low today as the chilly weather front starts to take hold, with it actually being colder in regions where no snow is expected.
According to the Met Office, England's South West will peak at 10C this afternoon, with highs of 8C or 9C forecast in other southern regions.
London and the Midlands should hover around 6C, with Northern Ireland and the west coast of Scotland one or two notches warmer.
The UK's east coast is set to be absolutely Baltic. Newcastle may only peak at 2C today, with East Anglia set to hit 4C at most.
