Son of £1.5billion cocaine kingpin mum opens up on ending life of crime

The son of infamous Colombian drug leader Griselda Blanco has explained why he decided to break free from the family business when his mother was assassinated.

Michael Corleone Blanco, now 42, was 34-years-old when his mother was assassinated in 2012 aged 69 following a lifetime of crime, violence, murder and drugs trafficking.

Michael’s mother is said to have been worth billions of dollars through her drugs trades – while her vicious life is set to be brought to the screen by Jennifer Lopez with a movie called The Godmother.

Michael himself was unable to escape the crime world he was raised in, forced to take charge of his mother’s crime business when he was just 12-years-old as his other brothers were jailed for their drug trafficking crimes.

He also witnessed the death of his own father when they were ambushed by gun-firing rival gang members – and survived six other assassination attempts of his own.

Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, Michael explained that the life of crime he had always known came to an end when his mother was assassinated herself – while he had already lost his three brothers who had also been murdered due to their involvement in crime.

It is believed that Griselda was responsible for the murder of 200 people as she was known to have a violent temper and gave orders for people to be killed on a whim.

However she was herself killed while out grocery shopping on 3 September 2012 when she was shot twice be a motorbike riding assailant.

Michael said he knew that his mother’s approach to such an event would be to order a hit on the killer – but when he learned of her death, he decided to end the cycle of violence that had killed everyone else in his family.

He said: “It was a call I had been dreading for years.

“I’d spoken to her at two that morning. They said to me, ‘Michael, I’m standing over your mother’s dead body.’ Right then and there it was, all right, do I kill a whole bunch of people just in case?

“Do you call the people that you know with one phone call will kill anybody you tell them to?

“Or do you say I will cut all generational curses right now and I won’t pass this s*** on to my kids?

“Even right now it brings tears to my eyes because I was with my boys when I got that phone call. I was teaching my youngest one how to swim.”

Michael has since built up a career for himself in the world of entertainment – starring on VH1 reality show Cartel Crew and becoming an advisor to production companies to give insight in to life inside an organised crime ring.

While Jennifer Lopez is expected to play Michael’s late mother in a film adaptation of her life – which JLo is also reportedly producing.
