A man has been jailed after he slapped a three-year-old boy as hard as he could and covered his body in peanut butter, getting his dog to lick it off for "banter".
Sick Michael Leeson launched the despicable attack on the defenceless youngster in 2018 when his mother was away from the home they lived in and he had been left alone with the boy, Sheffield Crown Court heard.
When the child's mother noticed the marks on her son's face and ear, Leeson told her that social services would take her children away from her if the injuries were reported, YorkshireLive reports.
Vile Leeson, 35, also tried to stop the boy from going to nursery because he knew the staff there would almost certainly have spotted the injuries.
Eventually, a nursery worker saw the marks on the child and he was examined by medical experts at hospital – with one doctor coming to the conclusion that he had been given a "severe beating" and struck across the face with an open hand with as much force as Leeson could manage.
Recorder Nicholas Lumley, sentencing Leeson, said the "cruel and callous" attack on the three-year-old could only have been out of extreme jealousy since there was no reason to hit a defenceless child.

Leeson had been due to stand trial on a charge of assaulting or ill-treating a child but admitted the same offence on a basis.
Despite pleading guilty, he denied the offence and had previously blamed another child for the young boy's injuries, the court heard.
Prosecutor Ian Goldsack also revealed that Leeson had smeared peanut butter over the boy’s chest and encouraged his whippet to lick it off him, during which the boy sustained scratches.

Recorder Lumley described this incident as "degrading".
It was also said that Leeson had taken drugs in front of other children in the same house.
In a pre-sentence report, Leeson continued to deny the horrific slap he had given the child, telling a probation officer he must have marked the youngster by accident but that he didn't remember.
Leeson, of Jellicoe Close, Dorset, was sentenced to two years and four months in prison.
