Fewer than 800 of England's 38,277 pubs will be able to reopen this week.

The 732 that do so are still facing restrictions and brewers are warning there'll be no beer for Christmas.

Publicans will still only be able to offer table service if they do open their doors.

Stats from the British Beer and Pub Association stats show the tiny number of venues that fall into Tier 1 measures amid the pandemic.

Thwaites Brewery chief Richard Bailey told The Sun : “Even that’s hardly freedom.”

He says his Blackburn-based brewery will be forced to remain shut after lockdown and he fears taps will run dry during the festive season.

His concerns come as rebel Tory MPs are demanding a second vote in the New Year on the return of the tier system, which hits on Wednesday.

The Covid Recovery Group's Nus Ghani said: “MPs must not be kept in the dark and these restrictions must only last for four weeks.

“There must be another vote in early January because I refuse to lock my constituency into such severe restrictions and throw away the key for two whole months.”

Up to 70 rebels are set to vote against the new tier system when it comes before them in Parliament today.

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab warned that a third wave could loom if the tiers system fails.

He refused to rule a third national lockdown if the measures aren't seen to be working.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote to the CRG at the weekend claiming he had met all their demands.

He pledged to share more data, test more symptomatic people and boost contact tracing.

Number 10 claims that pubs and bars carry a higher risk than work and schools.

But Mr Bailey warns that Mr Johnson 's lockdown measures and tier restrictions will kill off thousands of pubs.

He told the paper that 182 of his brewery’s 220 pubs are shut and will not be able to survive.

Bailey slammed the PM, saying that when a ship's captain usually hits rocks it's because of fog or falling asleep on his watch – "but at the moment the Government is wide awake".

He accused them of having their hands on the wheel and driving hospitality onto the rocks on purpose.
