Almost 1.1 million people have died from COVID-19 globally, and the virus has caused an unprecedented worldwide shutdown. But some nations have not reported a single case of the virus over the last year.

Which countries do NOT have coronavirus?

Dr Tess Newton Cain, the project lead for the Pacific Hub at the Griffith Asia Institute in Brisbane, Australia, said these countries without cases were quick to close their borders at the start of the outbreak.

Dr Newton Cain told i: “The primary reason that several countries in the Pacific have not reported any cases of COVID-19 has been because they closed their borders early and have kept them firmly shut.

“Governments moved swiftly and decisively to protect the health of Pacific populations.”

Which countries have a low number of coronavirus cases?

While there are few countries with zero confirmed cases of coronavirus, some nations have recorded a very low number of cases as of October 15.

The Solomon Islands has recorded two cases of COVID-19, according to John Hopkins University.

The Caribbean island of Saint Kitts and Nevis has reported 19 cases, as has the Holy See.

Laos in South East Asia has reported 23 cases, while Grenada has had 25 cases of the virus.

Throughout the pandemic, New Zealand’s prime minister Jacinda Ardern has been praised for how her government has tackled the crisis.

New Zealand has one of the lowest covid case totals in the world, reporting 1,876 cases as of October 15.

In June while other countries struggled to control the spread of the virus, New Zealand reported zero new cases for a considerable amount of time.

Cases started to rise again in August, but earlier this week the nation again declared no new coronavirus infections in 24 hours.

Which countries have the most cases of coronavirus?

As of October 15, the USA has recorded more cases of COVID-19 than any other country.

According to John Hopkins University there have been 7,916,534 cases of coronavirus in the US, and India has reported 7,307,097 cases.

Brazil has the third-highest number of total cases with 5,140,863 cases.

Slightly further down in the tally, the UK has reported 657,459 cases of COVID-19 to date.
