Woman dies suddenly in unexplained circumstances at student flats

A 19-year-old woman has tragically died in 'unexplained' circumstances at a block of student flats.

Police and paramedics were called to New Wakefield Street in Manchester city centre at around 9.30pm on Thursday.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness said emergency services were seen going into the Unite student flats.

Police say the death is currently being treated as 'unexplained'.

Pictures emerging from the scene show three police cars and three ambulances attending the scene.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called just before 9.30pm last night to a report of a sudden death on New Wakefield Street in Manchester.

"Emergency services attended and a 19-year-old woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained whilst officers carry out enquiries.

"A report is being prepared for HM Coroner."

Photos show multiple paramedics congregating outside the student accommodation.

Unite Students currently houses 603 Manchester students in its 'Artisan Heights' facility on Wakefield Street, located within walking distance of both Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester.

The £82.5 million development is a 32-storey tower block sitting adjacent to the river Medlock.

Enquiries into the tragic death remain ongoing.
