The world's tallest man has labelled himself a "world cultural heritage" while openly mocking a rival who is bidding to steal his crown.

Turkish farmer Sultan Kösen ripped into his opponent by claiming the "tyres" Sulemana Abdul Samed wore as shoes would make him far taller than he claimed to be.

It comes as Kösen downplayed the claims made by Samed, who claimed to be a potentially record-breaking 9ft 6in.

The 40-year-old is unconvinced though, that his measly stature of 8ft 3in in comparison, is anything to worry about and has maintained he is the tallest man in the world, despite Samed's claims.

Kösen, the Guinness World Record holder for tallest man alive, told Andalou news agency: "I have the biggest feet in the world. I wear size 61 shoes. I also own the largest hands in the world.

"My records are registered. I am world cultural heritage. I hear some news saying, 'Sultan's record is over, there are people taller than Sultan'. If there is, let's measure our height.

"I've held my record for 14 years. I will not lose my record to anyone. I'm determined about it."

That determination has kept Kösen at the top spot for some time, a head above the rest of the others coming for his spot, including "friendly giant" Samed.

Samed, a native of Ghana, is taller than some of the houses in his village, and a recent medical check-up saw the man claim he was 9ft 6in.

Not only would it break Kösen's record, but that of Robert Wadlow's record, who was recorded to be 8ft 11in tall at the time of his death in 1940.

Despite that, Samed was measured once more by a BBC reporter wielding a tape measure, and they found the actual height was more likely 7ft 4in.

The friendly giant added: "The way they measure me, I cannot say everything is perfect. I'm still growing tall. Who knows, maybe one day I may get to that height too."
