Rumours Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin has cheated death have erupted after data indicated he may have flown on a different plane to the one that crashed.

A business jet en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg crashed on Wednesday, killing 10. According to reports, Wagner Group boss Prigozhin was listed as a passenger and is now dead.

But a number of Russian Telegram channels have speculated the mercenary leader may have been on a different plane to the one that crashed and could still be alive.

The other Embraer 600 jet with the registration number RA-02748 departed from St Petersburg earlier today and flew towards Moscow, data shows.

But the plane’s flight records are partly inaccessible via FlightRadar24, an aircraft tracking website.

It’s been announced that a passenger by the name of Yevgeniy Prigozhin was on board.

“But it is also known that multiple individuals have changed their name to Yevgeniy Prigozhin, as part of his efforts to obfuscate his travels.

“So until we know for certain that it’s the right Prigozhin, let’s not be surprised if he pops up shortly in a new video from Africa.

“Everybody who was surprised Prigozhin survived his attempt to challenge the authority of the state in Russia with an armed mutiny, and said his days were numbered, will now be saying they told us so. (Including me.)”

Russia’s civilian aviation regulator, Rosaviatsia, said Prigozhin was on the passenger list of the plane that plunged into the ground in Tver region more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Moscow.

But it was not immediately clear if he had boarded the flight.

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you.
