Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City has been branded a “death zone” by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO recently led a joint UN team that spent an hour examining the hospital following its occupation and evacuation by the Israeli military.

During the inspection, the team observed signs of shelling and gunfire and noted the presence of a mass grave at the hospital’s entrance, reportedly containing the bodies of 80 Palestinians.

Some 300 critically ill patients are reported to still occupy al-Shifa, which was once the largest and most advanced hospital in Gaza.

The release of all hostages is an absolute priority for France.”

You can read his statement in full here.

“Good progress” has been made in a deal to release hostages according to the Qatari prime minister.

Qatar has played a role in mediation efforts to reach an agreement to the release of hostages, reports The Guardian.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said: “The challenges facing the agreement are just practical and logistical.

“There has been good progress in the past few days.”

Tributes have been paid to an Israeli solider who died in Gaza and donated his organs.

IDF said: “His heroism continues even after his death.

“SSTG Yehonatan Yitzchak Samo z”l fell on the battlefield in Gaza.

“After his death, his organs were donated, and saved the lives 6 people—between them an 8-month old baby.

“Yehonatan is only one of many soldiers who have saved lives through organ donation.

“May he rest in peace.”

Overnight operations in the West Bank by Israel Defence Forces targeted areas such as the Jenin and Balata refugee camps, resulting in the arrest of 38 Palestinians. Confrontations with armed individuals were reported in both camps, according to the IDF. Unverified reports from local media suggest the death of one Palestinian in Jenin and another in Dheisheh, an adjacent refugee camp near Bethlehem.

The Israel Defence Forces reported that they conducted raids on the residences of high-ranking Hamas officials in the Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City and engaged with fighters in the area

Doctors Without Borders, also known as Medicines Sans Frontiers (MSF), issued a statement denouncing what they insist was an intentional attack on one of their humanitarian convoys within Gaza, leading to the death of one person. In a statement MSF said: “On 18 November 2023, an MSF staff member’s relative died and another one was injured in an attack on an MSF convoy trying to evacuate 137 people – MSF Palestinian staff members and their families.”

Sign up to the Express daily newsletter and get the latest news and headlines from the Express.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported increased rocket exchanges along Israel’s border with Lebanon as they engage with the Hezbollah militant group.IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said: “IDF warplanes destroyed a short time ago the infrastructure of the terrorist organisation Hezbollah in Lebanese territory.”

A WHO spokesperson said: “Due to time limits associated with the security situation, the team was able to spend only one hour inside the hospital, which they described as a ‘death zone,’ and the situation as ‘desperate’.

“Signs of shelling and gunfire were evident. The team saw a mass grave at the entrance of the hospital and were told more than 80 people were buried there.”

They added: “Corridors and the hospital grounds were filled with medical and solid waste, increasing the risk of infection. Patients and health staff with whom they spoke were terrified for their safety and health, and pleaded for evacuation.”

Good morning from London.
