Storm Fergus: Met Office forecasts further wind and rain for UK

Parts of the UK have been battered after Storm Fergus hit over the weekend, with bad weather conditions expected to last until Thursday. More than 250 areas remain on flood watch after torrential rain on Saturday and Sunday, with dry and sunny weather today.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has eight flood alerts in place, while Natural Resources Wales has a further seven alerts – taking the UK total to 259. Meanwhile, the Environment Agency have 202 flood alerts in place across England where flooding is “possible”.

Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna said: “Monday looks like a better day for most areas, there will be some patchy rain across the north east of Scotland, but other than that it looks mostly dry with bright sunny spells and lighter winds. But wet and windy weather will come in on Monday night, pushing east into Tuesday.”

Met Office 5 day weather forecast

After any early rain clears the east a generally fine day for many with sunny spells, and lighter winds. However, some cloud and showers in the north and northwest. Cloud increasing in the far west into the afternoon.

Chilly at first in the north and east with some clear spells. Cloud increasing from the west with bands of heavy rain spreading eastwards accompanied by stronger winds.

Unsettled with frequent heavy showers, perhaps with the odd rumble of thunder. Longer spells of rain at times, especially in the north. Blustery, especially along the coasts.

Turning brighter, but colder from the northwest into Wednesday. More rain moving southeast early on Thursday ahead of drier conditions for many on Friday, except the far northwest.

Weather maps show more rain is on the way

While parts of the UK will experience dry, sunny conditions today, other areas will see more downpours.

The Met Office warns that after the “brief, drier interlude for many”, further unsettled weather is “likely” tomorrow, as the next area of low-pressure moves in from the west.

A spokesperson said: “This could bring with it some heavy rain at times, as well as some strong winds on exposed coasts.”
