Speculation around Tehran’s involvement in Hamas’ unprecedented terror attack on Israel has run rampant over the past week.
Iran has denied involvement in coordinating the surprise attack by Hamas militants from Gaza, which left more than 1,300 Israelis dead and 3,400 wounded.
But Prof Jacob Nagel, Benjamin Netanyahu’s former acting security advisor, says Tehran’s fingerprints are all over it.
He told Daily Express US: “I don’t have any doubt, I see weapons that Hamas used and 99 percent of them came from Iran. Ninety percent of their money and funding, and their orders came from Iran.
“It is an Iran-back Hamas assault on Israel, that is exactly what happened.”
Now, Tehran has threatened to intervene directly if Israel’s revenge on Gaza worsens. Israel has declared war on Hamas and retaliated with a week of punishing bombing raids.
Iran has condemned the bombing of the Gaza strip, which has killed over 2,200 Palestinians. Israel has also forced over a million Palestinians to flee to Southern Gaza ahead of “additional significant combat operations operations” in northern Gaza.
According to Prof Nagel, who is also a senior fellow at FDD, Tehran is proving not just a problem for Israel, but for the West too.
He said: “The Iranian problem is not just an Israeli one. It is a problem for the whole world. If Iran makes the mistake of intervening directly, they will have to pay.
“I’m not preaching for Israel to perform a pre-emptive strike on strike on Iran, but if the the US, the UK and others will do it, I will bless them and say that they have finally changed.”

Last week, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US is yet to see any evidence of involvement by Iran in the violent assault on Israel on October 7.
Iran has been a long-time supporter of the Hamas regime, which is labeled a terror organization by the US.
The Biden administration has also come under fire in recent weeks for unfreezing $6 billion of Tehran’s funds as part of a rare deal between the sworn enemies.
The deal, mediated by Qatar, also saw five US detainees flown out of Iran in a swap for five Iranian prisoners held in the US.
